The Mental Game - Beginning Reading

We recommend the following as beginning reading on the mental game:

  • Easier Said Than Done by Dr. Rick Jensen. If you have any intention of improving your game, you MUST read this book ASAP! It really is that good. It is, by far, the best book ever written on overall golfer development. Rick is the industry leader in motor learning - the way people learn to do physical activities. In the book he helps golfers understand this important topic. You are probably "spinning your wheels" in your efforts to improve if you haven't read it.

  • The Eight Traits of Champion Golfers by Dr. Deborah Graham and Jon Stabler. Graham and Stabler are the founders of GolfPsych and in this book they share their research about mental traits shared by all champion golfers and how you can emulate them. It is a "textbook" of mental tools and techniques, but is also an easy and entertaining read with many stories about players you will recognize.

  • Any book by Bob Rotella. We recommend starting in order (read Golf is Not a Game of Perfect first). These books tell many great stories about the players you know in a way that is both entertaining and informative.

  • The Inner Game of Golf by Tim Gallwey requires a bit of thought but does an outstanding job of getting at the heart of the real challenges we all face. It is an important read for serious students and serious players.
